Gujarat Tests Biodegradable Packaging from Rice Husk

Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation has initiated production of disposable food packaging—plates, bowls, and trays—made from compressed rice husk. The heat-molded products are microwave-compatible and compostable within 90 days. Pilot batches tested in Ahmedabad banquets showed strong heat resistance and water retention. The manufacturing unit employs local rice mill workers. Plans are underway to scale production and integrate packaging with food catering companies and railway pantry services.
